Chevron…herringbone…whatever you call it, it’s lovely!

I love all things chevron…or herringbone! It’s such a classic pattern that adds so much drama to a room, especially if it’s black and white! But why not add the pattern in other colors…yellow, red, brown? Love, love…

Color Me Happy: It’s Autumn!

It’s that time of year again…there’s a slight chill in the air and the other day, I got my first smell of burning leaves. It’s a love/hate relationship…I’m sad to see summer go, but I (secretly) can’t wait to start wearing sweaters and boots. So what better way to ring in the season than with lovely handmade inspirations from my fellow Etsy-ers! Enjoy…

Color Inspiration: Charcoal Gray & Mellow Yellow

A lot of inspiration for my pieces comes from color…specifically color used in interiors. I am completely obsessed with gray and yellow at the moment (of which I have decorated my living room around these colors, but that’s another story…). Below are some photos that I love and drew from to create one of my pieces

Below is a wall piece that that I embroidered using these awesomely chic colors. Wouldn’t it look perfect with some of these spaces? Mmmm…love it.

Time to Expand…

When I decided to start my own blog, I didn’t put a whole lot of thought into it (to be completely honest). I went to blogger.com and signed up and posted my first posting. I suppose I wanted to record a little of the journey of starting a new business and give updates on where White Nest was going. And I still want to do that, but I’ve been giving it a lot of thought lately as to where I want the blog to go. I’m interior designer…I studied it for four very long years in college and worked as a residential designer for three years and as a hospitality designer for four. I walked away recently for the day-to-day design world, but I will always be an interior designer at heart. So why not feature some of the things that make my heart flutter? I always used to do this thing with my hands when I got really excited about something at work (hard to demonstrate over a blog, but ask anyone I used to work with to demonstrate…) and I think it’s about time that I share some of the things that make me do my hand “thing”. So look out for great design thoughts, photos, and all things pretty! :)

And just because I love looking at photos as much as you do (and probably not reading any of the writing!), here’s a great space that I LOVE. Doesn’t have any rhyme or reason other than I just. love. it.

Design Harvest…recap!

I managed to make it to Design Harvest both days and although Saturday had some rough weather (not going to lie…rainy, windy and in the 50′s!), it was a great event! Thanks for everyone who came out…I talked to the Renegade folks and they were quite pleased the turnout as well! Below are some photos of White Nest pillows, amongst the other talented sellers! Enjoy!

Chicago’s First Design Harvest!

Chicago is holding it’s very first Design Harvest…what’s a Design Harvest, you ask? It’s a brand new street fair dedicated to handmade, sustainable and refurbished home and garden furnishings in the up and coming “Design District” on Grand Ave. (between Damen and Wood). It’s a celebration of the home and I’ll be showcasing pillows and artwork from White Nest!

Renegade Handmade, the brick and mortar store of the Renegade Craft Fair, will be hosting a pavilion featuring 20 favorite indie-craft designers, including myself! It’s on October 2nd and 3rd from 11am – 7pm.

I couldn’t be more thrilled to showcase my home accessories! And even if I wasn’t participating, who wouldn’t love a whole street fair dedicated to the home?? So come on down if you’re in the area!

Renegade Handmade "Hoot Show"!

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the Renegade Craft Fair and Renegade Handmade, their brick and mortar store located in Wicker Park. So when they approached me to participate in a contest they were hosting, I immediately jumped on board! How could I not??

So the contest involved their beloved logo, the Owl. They asked a handful of artists around the craft community that practice in different types of media to take their Owl logo and interpret it in ANY way we wanted. They would conduct a contest the weekend of the Chicago Renegade fair and whoever won the contest would have their booth fee into the fair waived (which was huge!!).

So I got to thinking and since it I mostly practice hand-embroidery, I decided to take their logo and embroider the Owl. I changed up the colors to make it more fun and decided to split the owl into several different pieces.

And the winner was….(drum roll please)………not me, BUT it was such an amazing event. I had so many people come to my booth and tell me that they just voted for me, which was awesome! And lucky you, it’s still showcased in the Renegade Handmade store through October 11th. So go down to the store and check out my installation in person! If you can’t make it, you can see the entries, including mine online.

Chicago Renegade – A recap!

Hello everyone!!

So sorry for not writing more about the Chicago Renegade fair sooner! I was busy getting orders out last week, but I’m back in action this week. It was such an amazing weekend…the buzz in the atmosphere was so energetic! There were so many highlights, so I thought I would outline a few of my personal highlights of the show below:

  •  It was my first show in my hometown of Chicago! I was an attendee last year and remember wandering the show in complete amazement at everyone’s talent. I made it a personal goal right then and there to be a part of the show this year and it was a huge accomplishment of mine to attend the show as an vendor!
  • The first day was a little rough (setting up while it’s raining…maybe not the most fun thing I’ve ever done), but it cleared up and ended up being a great day for us! But day two was huge! The weather was amazing and the people came out in droves!
  • We introduced a new product that was wildly successful! I made a bib necklaces that were made out of hand-dyed wood beads…we couldn’t keep the necklaces out long enough! We ended up selling out the first day and after a long day, I had a “bead dying” party at my house with my amazing friends! We were able to make another handful of necklaces that were sold out by 2pm on Sunday! But don’t worry to anyone that didn’t get a chance to buy one…they’ll be in my Etsy shop soon!
  • A writer from Daily Candy stopped by our booth and will be doing a piece on White Nest soon!
  • And lastly, but not least, we had such great support and comments from everyone that stopped by our booth. So THANK YOU to all that stopped by and gave us your kind words! That literally is why I am so thankful that I can do this…it’s because of kind people like you! So thank you Chicago!! It’s why I love you so!
